For AWS beginners, start with the AWS Cloud Practitioner study guide, which covers foundational cloud concepts, AWS services overview, pricing models, and the shared responsibility model. Combine the official AWS exam guide (free on the AWS website), a structured course (Stephane Maarek or Adrian Cantrill are highly rated), and hands-on free-tier experience.

Re-reading the same material is one of the least effective study methods.

For CompTIA Security+, the most recommended resources are: Mike Meyers' CompTIA Security+ Certification Study Guide, Professor Messer's free Security+ course (updated for each exam version), and Jason Dion's Udemy course with practice exams. Complete practice exams and aim for consistent 85%+ scores. The CertMaster platform from CompTIA is also worth considering if your employer covers it.

Even with hands-on experience, study guides serve an important function: certifications test specific exam domains and question formats that differ from real-world practice. A targeted study guide helps you identify and fill knowledge gaps, understand the exam's specific terminology, and practice the question format. At minimum, review the official exam objectives and take at least two full practice exams before sitting the real exam.
